WIRELESS INTERNET FAQ

What is the difference between DSL, Cable, and Wireless Internet Access? DSL, Cable and Wireless are all broadband Internet Access services, each utilizing different transport technologies. DSL utilizes copper telephone lines and Cable utilizes fiber or coaxial cable to transmit data. Wireless utilizes radio frequencies to transmit data - satellite feeds, cable service or phone service is NOT required. Wireless means no busy signals, no disconnects, and no telecomm or cable service fees. Wireless is far superior to DSL, Cable & Satellite in terms of reliability, speed, and security.

Why is Wireless price competitive with DSL and Cable? DSL and Cable service require two separate service components: a transport provider (your telco or cable company) and an Internet Service Provider. In addition, land-based telephone and cable lines are subject to costly tariffs, long installation timeframes and multiple points of failure. These factors increase service costs and the probability of service.

With Telpage Wireless there is no middleman - Telpage is both the transport and the Internet provider which means no telco fees, no cable fees, and fewer points of failure. You deal with one company end-to-end. Plus wireless installation does not require costly construction to run a fiber connection to your business or home.

Does bad weather negatively affect wireless service? NO. Fixed wireless access utilizes high frequency radio waves, which are not adversely affected by heavy rains or snow. Fixed wireless is often confused with one-way satellite access whose service can be affected by weather and meteorological factors.

Is my data secure on a Wireless network? YES. Telpage's wireless technology, developed by the military, utilizes FHSS or Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum technology which transmits signal using very low power and spreads them over a quasi-randomized spectrum of frequencies, each containing only a tiny fragment or packet of information.

What Hardware is required and is it supplied by Telpage? Our current subscriber units (SU) include a variety of different radios/antenna combinations. In addition we bundle everything needed for a broadband connection in convenient and cost effective packages.
