Craven County, North Carolina
Formed in 1712 and first named Archdale Precinct, Craven County has been the mother of several counties: Carteret in 1722, New Hanover in 1729, Johnston in 1746, Jones in 1778, and changing boundaries have affected also the counties of Beaufort, Dobbs, Pitt, Lenoir, Greene and Pamlico.
